Excursion Nature hike at diosso gorge (extensive) tour at Pointe Noire

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Visit the Diosso Gorges, located in Kouilou in the southwest of the Republic of Congo, approximately 35 km from Pointe-Noire. Renowned as one of the most visited sites in the region, the gorges are often compared to the Grand Canyon due to their dramatic formations. Carved over centuries by rain from the Atlantic coast, the friable laterite has created large cirques and striking natural sculptures, surrounded by lush vegetation. Accompanied by a tour guide, explore the historic Stele and the large square of the former slave market, gaining insight into the region’s rich history. Then, enjoy an approximately 2.5-hour hike through the breathtaking Diosso Gorges, marveling at the natural beauty and geological wonders carved into the landscape. The hike concludes at the beachside, where you can relax and enjoy a refreshing swim before returning to Pointe Noire.

Note

Please note: Republic of Congo is a very-low-income country with very basic infrastructure, and vastly different to the western culture mentality. Local conditions may be challenging; therefore, we urge flexibility and understanding as we visit unique and somewhat remote destinations. Coaches, guides, equipment, and services are the best-available in the area but may not be up to the standards of those found on other excursions. Transfer time each direction is approx. 60 minutes. This tour requires a good fitness level as the hike is approx. 2.5 hours for approx . 6km (3.7 miles) and involves uneven terrain, steep inclines, and hot weather conditions. Lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, sun protection and insect repellant is recommended. Anticipate high temperatures and humidity and we recommend staying hydrated by bringing your water bottle. If you are interested in swimming, we recommend wearing a swimsuit underneath your clothing, as there are no changing facilities at the beach. Additionally, please bring a towel from the ship for your use. Guests are informed that tips to local guides and drivers are at the guest’s discretion.
