Excursion Douarnenez walking tour tour at Douarnenez

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Depart the ship and discover the town of Douarnenez. Throughout the 19th century, Douarnenez flourished thanks to its fish-canning factories. Locals lived to the rhythm of sardines: men would head out on the fishing boats to catch the little silver fish, which the women would then prepare at the factories. The sardine reigns supreme in Douarnenez and is still fished today, from June to September. By following the "venelles", alleyways full of character, you will discover the soul of Douarnenez. Your tour will then bring you to the afloat museum, a selection of fishing ships, to understand the differences and life aboard of a sand ship, a steam tug or a galleass.

After this open-air museum, your guide will accompany you to the "Sardine house" to learn all about the history of the sardine port through the stories of anglers and women who lived here. Be fully immersed back in time with local sardine-based old fashion recipe tastings, followed by free time in the town.

After your visit, enjoy the scenic walk back to the ship.

Note

Please note: This tour is not suitable for guests in wheelchairs or individuals with limited mobility due to uneven cobblestone streets and uneven ground on other parts of the tour. Casual dress code and comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
