Excursion A taste of wales – velfrey vineyard tour at Fishguard
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Enjoy a taste of Wales with an exclusive visit to the family run Velfrey Vineyard, where the Pembrokeshire sunshine combined with coastal breezes provide the perfect ripening conditions.
Established in 2016 by Andy, Fiona, and Ryan Mounsey, Velfrey Vineyard occupies a gentle south facing slope of the Lampeter Vale in south Pembrokeshire countryside and has over 5,000 vines planted across more than 3 acres. The vines are planted in a sandy clay loam, a soil type which is found in some of the world’s most prestigious wine growing regions. Velfrey has gone on to win accolades not only for the vineyard itself, but also for the wines produced here which have won multiple awards, including UK Top 100, Best Welsh Sparkling and medals at WineGB, Decanter and Glass of Bubbly.
On arrival, meet with one of the Mounsey family and discover how Velfrey Vineyard was established. Follow a year in the life of the vineyard from winter pruning all the way through to grape harvesting with a presentation in the visitor lodge overlooking the vineyard. Learn how the wines are produced and, weather permitting, you’ll have the choice to see the vines up close.
The vineyard produces several different wines, including their traditional method sparkling and still wines, and you will have the opportunity to taste four of these, giving you a sample of the different types of wine available in this beautiful country.
During your wine tasting, you will be served a selection of outstanding cheeses and charcuterie from the artisan producers of West Wales and Monmouthshire. These local delicacies will be complemented by Pembrokeshire pickles, Welsh crackers and a selection of olives and sundried tomatoes. And of course, a glass of delicious Velfrey wine!’
