Birdwatching at the Arroyo Maldonado Wetlands, an area of international importance for the conservation of birds and biodiversity. In this saline wetland (marsh) more than 260 species of birds have been recorded.
The Arroyo Maldonado wetlands are located in the terminal stretch of the Maldonado stream, including the mouth in the Atlantic Ocean. This site is in the Department of Maldonado, near the urban axis Punta del Este-Maldonado.
The area it was declared by BirdLife international as an important Bird Area. The list of birds registered on the wetlands is about of 265 species mainly water birds, shorebirds and passerines associated with the native flora.
You will walk along the trail across different environments, such as the native forest, the prairie and the rushes for approximately 3 hours.
Note
Please note: This tour involves about one mile (1.6km) of walking over varied terrain. The excursion is not recommended for guests with limited mobility because of uneven surfaces. Guests are recommended to wear sport clothes and sport shoes, water, sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat. Binoculars also are recommended and will be provided. The driving distance between the pier and the Birding site is approximately 30 minutes in each direction.
