Depart the cruise pier for a scenic two-hour coach ride through the French countryside to Carcassonne (La Cité), one of Europe's most complete medieval fortified towns and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The fortified hill has been inhabited since the 3rd century B.C., and the city’s present form, remarkably intact, was shaped between the 4th and 13th centuries. Upon arrival, embark on a guided orientation tour, where your guide leads you through the citadel’s cobbled streets, towering ramparts, drawbridges, and medieval alleys. The narrative brings to life Carcassonne’s powerful past, including its flourishing period under the noble Trencavel family and its role as a major stronghold of the Middle Ages.

Medieval Lunch and Free time

After exploring, you’ll enjoy a medieval lunch at La Taverne, an immersive dining experience that recreates the atmosphere of the era with wooden tables, bread trenchers, earthenware jugs, and dishes inspired by historical recipes. Following lunch, enjoy free time to browse artisan boutiques, take photos of the majestic fortifications, or walk along panoramic viewpoints. Feel the charm of this beautifully preserved medieval world at your own pace.  At the end of the visit, rejoin your guide and board your coach for the relaxing two-hour return drive to the cruise pier.

Please Note: This tour involves moderate amount of walking of approximately 0.93 miles (1.5km) with uphill sections and paved, uneven terrain inside Carcassonne, is not wheelchair accessible, and is not recommended for guests with limited mobility; comfortable walking shoes are strongly advised, photography and video are permitted throughout, lunch includes a fixed medieval-style set menu with wine at La Taverne, the tour operates in all seasons without venue closure days, shopping opportunities are available during free time, and the minimum age to participate is 12 years old.
