San Felipe Fortress, a military fortress situated outside the walled city is the first visit on this comprehensive tour of the city. The imposing structure is the most outstanding feat of Spanish military engineering in the New World. Construction on the fort began in 1536 and continued for 121 years. Visit and ponder on the immensity of the fort which at its time was at the forefront of military defensive architecture. rejoin your motor coach and heading to the neighborhood of Getsemani. This historic neighborhood of the city, which until a few years ago was rundown and largely ignored is today an area buzzing with locals and visitors alike, enjoying the many cafes, restaurants and bars as well as innumerable small hotels, boutiques and art galleries. Trinidad plaza is the Centre of the neighborhood and in the neighboring streets, the local families sit outside their houses and mix with the visitors enjoying the eclectic atmosphere and the general hustle and bustle of what “Cartageneros” now refer to as “Jetsemani”. During the guided stroll of the neighborhood, there will be the opportunity to enjoy a fresh fruit juice with Colombian Snacks at a charming rooftop with views of the bay and appreciate the colorful graffiti, painted by local artists on the walls of the Colonial houses.

You then rejoin your motor coach for a short drive to La Marina Park and then walk for a few minutes. Afterwards there will be a guided walk through the historic streets of magical Cartagena with a short visit to the Gold Museum (Closed Mondays) where there is a small selection of ornaments which were made from gold by the indigenous peoples of Colombia, before the Spanish conquest. Continue Walking along atmospheric streets to appreciate the charm of the city’s Spanish colonial architecture, some of the most impressive and well-preserved in South America. View old merchant´s houses, flower-bedecked balconies, stunning civic buildings and beautiful churches. Many squares and public spaces are lined by sidewalk cafes and restaurants, where Colombians and visitors alike relax and enjoy the magic of this amazing. Continue walking to La Marina Park to rejoin your motorcoach and enjoy your last drive through Cartagena before arriving to the airport

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 0.93 miles (about 1.5 kilometres), at times over uneven and cobblestone surfaces and inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and 50 steps at the sites visited; lifts are available at a few venues.
