Excursion Discover menorca tour at Port Mahon
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Experience some of the best-known sites of Menorca during this scenic, half-day sightseeing excursion. Blessed with outstanding environmental diversity, Menorca became a protected UNESCO biosphere zone in 1993, with the aim of conserving its natural beauty whilst supporting sustainable tourism. Spectacular features include gullies, land and underwater caves, lagoons and dune systems, plus an abundance of flora and fauna and many wildlife species that are unique to the island.
Fornells Village and Bay
Depart the pier for the short, approximately 30-minute drive through the fertile north countryside en route to the fishing village of Fornells, nestled on the shores of a magnificent bay of the same name. An important shipping harbour in days past, Fornells Bay is now a popular hub for water sports, including windsurfing, kayaking and sailing.
Monte Toro
Next, proceed to nearby Mercadal Village and ascend the 1,171-foot (357-metre) Monte Toro, the geographic centre of the island. Upon arrival, take in splendid panoramic vistas of Fornell Bay, the surrounding countryside, 14th-century buildings, a 17th-century monastery, bejewelled statue of the Virgin Mary, and more.
Subaida Farm and Coastal Drive
Leaving Monte Toro, drive to the nearby Subaida Farm and Estates. Take a guided tour of this expansive, family-owned farm, and observe the cheese production process. There are 350 hectares (865 acres) of which 200 (495 acres) are used to grow animal feed and the rest woodland and shoreline. Afterward, sample different aged cheeses, meats and biscuits, then stop by the farm shop.
Your tour concludes with a scenic drive back to the pier.
