Upon arrival in Montblanc, discover its rich architectural and cultural heritage during a guided walking tour of its lanes and old streets. Along the way, it's easy to see why Montblanc is one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Catalonia. Pass by 13th-century and 14th-century buildings, the old Gothic Church of Santa Maria with its ornate façade, and defensive wall, and learn about the legend of Saint George (patron saint of Catalonia), who killed a dragon to save the Princess.
Poblet Monastery, Guided Walking Tour, Cistercian Art
Next, re-board your coach and head for a guided tour of the Poblet Monastery, an UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located in the region of Conca de Barbera in a beautiful setting, this Cistercian abbey is among the largest monasteries in Spain and most important of its kind in Europe. The Poblet Monastery was built in the 12th century, though its era of grandeur peaked in the 14th century. It was then abandoned, but, beginning in 1940, some monks resumed living there. In addition to the magnificent church, see prominent examples of Cistercian art. Your tour concludes with an approximately 50-minute drive back to the pier.
