Dju´pivogur, Eggs of Merry Bay Sculpture, Throat Diver Egg
Depart the pier with your guide for a scenic hiking trek through Dju´pivogur. The pier is located in the vicinity of the Eggs of Merry Bay, an interesting sculpture consisting of 34 oversized eggs dotting the water’s edge. Each egg depicts the local bird species with the largest depicting the throat diver, a characteristic bird of Dju´pivogur.
Langalág Stables, Olnbogi Village, Klessuklif, Rakkaberg Cliff, ‘Elf Church’ Formations, Berufjörður
From here, walk towards the Langalág Stables, then along an old road through Olnbogi Village and Klessuklif en route to the Rakkaberg Cliff. Rakkaberg is an interesting cliff featuring strange formations known as the ‘Elf Church’. During a picturesque stop here, learn about the elves and ‘hidden people’, and then it’s up to you to decide whether you want to believe it. Your walk turns north to the Berufjörður Fjord on the way to the Hálsar mountain range, your final destination.
Hálsar Mountain & Summit, Panoramic Vistas of Fjords & Forests, Refreshment Stop
A short, but rather steep trail leads you up to the summit of the approximately 1,653-foot-high (about 504-metre-high) Hálsar Mountain. Upon reaching the top, the surface is flat, so you can catch your breath whilst marvelling at panoramic vistas of exquisite scenery to Berufjörður in the north and Hamarsfjörður in the south. Leaving the summit of Hálsar, begin your descent with a hike down the Hamarsfjörður side, where a small forest amongst the cliffs welcomes you and your fellow hikers. Upon arrival, a stop is made to rest and enjoy some refreshments. Afterward, take a short stroll along the trees en route to Djúpivogur Village. Your walking tour concludes back at the pier.
