Join your guide for a 45 minute walk with an introduction to herbs and dried seafood relating to tonic food cooking. Reboard your coach for the 45 minute drive to lunch consisting of a tonic lunch cooked with seasonal ingredients to balance the body and then return to the pier.

The oldest surviving text of Chinese medicine, Shen Nong Cao Jing is a record of ancient wisdom and experience on the use of herbs that dates back to B.C. Since the emperor Shen Nong tasted 100 herbs and taught the Chinese people how to use them in diet and therapy, herbal medicine has been an integral part of Chinese culture and medical practice. A typical practitioner may routinely used between 200 to 600 different substances. In Chinese culture it is strongly believed food is a main factor to stay healthy. A diet prepared with seasonal ingredients and herbs will keep your body strong with proper nutrition as well as good taste.


You will stroll on one of the oldest streets selling herbs and dried seafood. The specialist guide will introduce you to different herbs and its function and benefits. Dried seafood is often used as a supplement ingredient enriching the taste and nutrition of dishes. Dried Seafood Street and Tonic Food Street is a cluster of streets that specialize in traditional Chinese banquet and health foods.


Lunch to Sample a Tonic Meal

Visit a local restaurant to sample a tonic meal prepared by seasonal ingredients and herbs to balance your body and appeal to your taste bud. The Chinese daily meal consists of four food groups, grains, vegetables, fruit and meat. Because of lactose intolerance, Chinese do not consume large amounts of dairy products. Instead, Chinese substitute these with soymilk and tofu, which also contain large amount of protein and calcium. Vegetables, fruits and meats are usually fresh.
