The village of Hólmavík stands as the largest settlement in the Strandir region, with a population of 292 as estimated by Statistics Iceland in 2024. Situated by the Steingrímsfjörður fjord, it boasts a profound connection to Icelandic folklore and magical traditions. Hólmavík is also home to the Museum of Icelandic Sorcery and Witchcraft, a prominent cultural site that delves into the region’s distinctive history of witchcraft and the witch trials of the 17th century.

We invite you to join us for a relaxing walking tour of Hólmavík, where you will hear captivating tales about the village’s history, its significance in Icelandic sorcery, and the legends that have influenced the Strandir region. The tour will conclude with a visit to Galdur, the community-owned brewery in the village, where you can savor a selection of locally brewed beer.

Note

Please note: A moderate amount of walking and standing for approximately 1.5 km (1 mile). At times over uneven and unpaved surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate at the brewery. After the tour concludes, guests are welcome to remain in Hólmavík and return to the ship at their leisure. Dress warmly in layers, with sturdy, closed-toe, waterproof shoes/boots, and bring sun protection and a weatherproof jacket, hat, scarf, and gloves.
