Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Experience the highlights of Kingston and Port Royal during this picturesque sightseeing excursion.

Port Royal, City Drive, Fort Charles, Archaeological & Maritime Museum, Artefacts

Depart the pier for a scenic drive through Port Royal, which gained its reputation in the 17th century as the 'richest and wickedest city in the world', and was notorious for its gaudy displays of wealth and loose morals. Port Royal flourished for 32 years until June 7, 1692, when most of the city sank into the seas a result of an earthquake and tidal wave. Discover some of the artefacts that were retrieved from the destruction of the city on display during a guided visit to the Archaeological and Maritime Museum, located inside Fort Charles. Built between 1650 and 1660, Fort Charles was the first fort constructed in Port Royal. Following your tour, some free time is made available to explore Fort Charles independently.

Kingston City Drive, Devon House, Restored Rooms, Craft Shoppes, Jamaican Restaurants

Next, drive through Kingston and see the development to modernise the city. It is known globally as a centre of finance and commerce, as well as a cultural mecca and gem of the West Indies. Pass by a rich array of historical and natural sites, then head for a visit to Devon House, an iconic national monument and symbol of the island's cultural diversity. Built in 1881 and located in the heart of Kingston, Devon House offers a striking contrast to the hustle-and-bustle of the city. This approximately 11-acre (about 4.4-hectare) property with its lush, sprawling lawns provides an ambience that soothes the mind and soul, and a wonderful shopping experience for visitors. Upon arrival, take a guided tour of the Devon House mansion.

Guided Tour, Snack, Free Time, Shopping, Kingston Crafts Market

Along the way, learn about the history of the site whilst exploring beautifully restored rooms with antique furniture and lovely décor, shoppes selling Jamaican craft items, and restaurants serving authentic Jamaican food. Afterward, some free time is made available to browse the onsite shoppes, and enjoy a complimentary beverage and beef, chicken, or fish patty, or ice cream; additional food and drinks are available at your own expense. Following your visit, re-board your coach and head for a brief shopping stop at the Kingston Crafts Market. Your tour concludes with a short drive back to the pier.
