Aburatsu, Kirishima Shochu Distillery and Factory Garden

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 1.5-hour drive to the Kirishima Factory Garden. Part of the Kirishima Shochu Distillery, it is open to the public and revered as 'a garden park with industrial, cultural and interaction facilities'. Various development components here include brewery facilities for authentic shochu and craft beer, along with cultural and restaurant facilities.

Guided Factory Tour and Shochu Manufacturing Process

The operation is managed by Kirishima Shuzo Co. Ltd., a shochu distillery manufacturing a variety of sweet potato shochu, including products such as Kuro Kirishima and Aka Kirishima, among others. Based on the concept of 'A Walk to Learn, Feel and Discover', enjoy an exciting learning experience during a guided tour of the factory. Along the way, discover the technology and spirit behind the shochu manufacturing process, which was developed over the course of more than 100 years.

Shochu Tasting, Shopping and Lunch

Following your tour, proceed for a tasting of several types of shochu at the store, where you can also purchase this popular libation to take home with you. Afterward, proceed for lunch served at the Kirishima Factory Garden.

Nichinan Coast, Phoenix Roadside Station, Market, Restaurant, and Coastal Views

After lunch, re-board your coach and head to the Phoenix Roadside Station, a resting spot for travellers driving along the Nichinan coast. The first-floor sells special local products such as ashitaba, shrimp and soft cream made from mangoes, and the second-floor features the restaurants. From the viewing deck at the third-floor, enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of the Nichinan coast (weather-permitting). Following your photo stop, re-board your coach and commence the approximate 45-minute drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 765 yards (about 700 metres), at times over uneven, gravel and cobblestone surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and 30 steps at the Kirishima Factory Garden. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. Photography, videography, eating and drinking are not permitted during the factory tour. Guests must be at least 21 years old to be served alcoholic beverages. The tour sequence may vary. Space on this tour is very limited; we suggest you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
