Depart the pier with your guide for the scenic, approximately 30-minute drive through Tauranga en route to a traditional Maori marae, a sacred outdoor space in the heart of the village. Upon entering the gates of the marae, you are warmly greeted by the tangata whenua (local people), then taken on a unique cultural journey through their Maori heritage and early New Zealand life. Enjoy a typical Maori folkloric performance featuring action songs, poi dances, stick games, and the haka war dance.

Following light refreshments served at the marae, re-board your coach and head to Minden Lookout. Upon arrival, take in spectacular panoramic views over the Bay of Plenty. After a photo stop here, re-board your coach and continue along the scenic Matapihi and Maungatapu peninsulas en route to Gate Pa, site of a battle between the Maoris and British in 1864. View the Maori War Canoe, Te Awanui, and downtown waterfront, then re-board your coach and commence the drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking, at times over uneven, gravel, and natural surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair.
