Uncover the secrets of the cosmopolitan city of Maputo on this guided tour. As you walk through the city, your guide introduces you to Maputo's complex history, filled with social and political upheavals.

This walking tour in the company of a local guide takes you deep into the Baixa (historic downtown district), to the very heart of the story and filled with city’s most impressive buildings, gardens, and walks. Stops along the route include the famous Maputo Railway Station, the old Fortress, Independence Square, Iron House, and the bustling Central Market.

Upon completion of the walking tour, continue to your next stop to the Fundação Fernando Leite Couto. The Fundação is named after Mozambique’s most renowned contemporary writer and is rapidly becoming Maputo’s most important cultural centre. Located in a building developed by the architect Pancho Guedes, it has been transformed to house a library, café, gallery, and a space for events. Enjoy a visit and lunch at newly developed garden before returning by scenic route back to the port.

A moderate amount of walking and standing for approximately 3 km (1.84 miles), at times over uneven surfaces and inclines, with a few steps to fully-explore the sites visited, making this tour not suitable for guests with walking difficulties. Lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection is recommended.
