Nahampoana Private Reserve, Folkloric Performance

Meet your guides and travel in mini vans about 25 minutes to the Nahampoana Private Reserve.

Nahampoana Natural Reserve is situated 7 km to the north of Fort Dauphin (about 25 minutes by road). It is a small private reserve of only 67 ha, and allows great opportunities for viewing/photographing and close encounter with Sifaka's and other lemurs. This park has four species of habituated lemurs, ring-tailed, red-fronted brown and bamboo lemurs as well as sifakas, which are the stars of the park. Their small, white, fuzzy head, with a black face and snout balances graciously when they move over the ground in their famous “dance”. The well-kept gardens show a good sample of Madagascar's dry plants with their three-cornered palms, spiny Desiderata trees and stands of bamboo. Deep in the forest there are waterfalls and natural swimming pools that offer quiet and secluded resting areas. Nahampoana offers the opportunity to discover some amazing tropical vegetation. There is also a chance of seeing crocodiles, chameleons and birdlife. There are 5 themed circuits to explore based on your interests and time available.

On arrival, start a guided walk through the gardens keeping a lookout for lemurs, as well as birds, chameleons and crocodiles. While on your walk, there is a good chance of a close encounter with Sifaka's as well as a few other lemur species during your guided exploration in the Private Reserve.

Enjoy a refreshment and a Folklore performance after exploring the reserve and then board vehicles and head back to the port.
