On this half day walking tour you'll get a taste of Old Belem, Arts and Culture, walking from the pier through the History of North Brazil . Enjoy Belém's vibrant culture, tree -lined squares, colonial buildings and colorful Vero -Peso Market, the largest open air market in Latin America and a UNESCO world heritage site. Amid the bright colors and aromas, you can find everything from the catch-of-the-day to locally made crafts and medicinal herbs along with a large number of fruits you may have never seen before.
At the end of the market we arrive at the old, historic part of city and the first European colony on the Amazon resembling a bit of Old Portugal with its neoclassical buildings and blue azulejos tiles, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here in the Cidade Velha (Old City), you will see the brilliant white Cathedral of Sé and Castle Fort, dating back to 1616. Next up is the Museum of Sacred Arts formed by the architectural ensemble of the Church of Saint Alexander and the Episcopal Palace sheltering fantastic works of religious art.
After your 3 hour walk through the city, embark on air-conditioned buses to visit the main cultural monuments of the city, including the Da Paz Theater, considered one of the prettiest in Brazil. It is built in neo -classical style and was opened in 1878. The São José Liberto old jail became a handcraft market and Jeweler Gems Museum displaying mineral pieces as diamonds, quartz, crystals and amethysts.
