This half-day tour reveals Patmos’ sacred heritage and serenity, visiting the Cave of St. John, pausing for photos at the windmills of Chora, and enjoying a scenic island drive with a Northern-coast photo stop before returning to the pier.

Cave of St. John

Depart from the pier for a brief drive up to the revered Cave of St. John, where tradition holds that the Book of Revelation was received. Walk carefully down the steps into the Grotto to view the devotional niches and the characteristic fissure in the rock while your guide shares the site’s spiritual significance.

Windmills of Chora, Kambos

Continue with a short drive to the windmills of Chora for a classic photo stop overlooking whitewashed lanes and the skyline of the Monastery of St. John. From here, settle in for a short panoramic drive across headlands and quiet bays toward the Kambos area. Pause for a brief photo stop along the northern coast, taking in the island’s tranquil seascapes, then conclude with a 30-minute drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 0.09 miles (about 150 metres), at times over uneven surfaces, with approximately 40 steps to negotiate to access the Cave of St. John, which includes narrow and enclosed spaces. Walking during stops is at the discretion of each guest. This tour is not suitable for guests who suffer from claustrophobia, guests with limited mobility, or guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. Proper attire is required to visit the Cave and Church of the Apocalypse; shorts and bare shoulders are not permitted. Photography and videography are not permitted inside the Cave of St. John.
