Excursion Sacred mount misen hike: from sea to summit tour at Itsukushima
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Experience one of Miyajima’s most inspiring adventures as you journey to the summit of Mount Misen, the island’s highest peak, before descending by ropeway and exploring its rich spiritual heritage.
Your hike begins with a visit to Daisho-in Temple, a historic Buddhist complex nestled at the foot of Mount Misen. Revered as one of the island’s most important temples, it provides a fitting introduction to the mountain’s spiritual significance.
From here, embark on a challenging yet rewarding ascent through ancient forests, granite outcrops, and scenic viewpoints. As you climb, sweeping vistas gradually emerge, offering glimpses of the Seto Inland Sea and the rugged landscape that has inspired pilgrims for centuries.
At the summit, enjoy time to explore the mountaintop’s sacred sites, including the Reikado (Eternal Flame Hall)—where a sacred fire has burned for more than a thousand years—and the Misen Hondo. Take in magnificent 360-degree views stretching across Hiroshima, nearby islands, and the shimmering inland sea.
Your descent begins at Shishiiwa Station, where the Miyajima Ropeway carries you gracefully down to Momijidani. Along the way, enjoy spectacular aerial views of the valley below, especially stunning during the autumn foliage season. From the lower station, a pleasant walk leads you back toward the pier, offering time to reflect on the day’s remarkable natural and cultural discoveries.
This invigorating journey blends physical adventure, spiritual heritage, and unforgettable scenery for a truly immersive Miyajima experience.
