Walking Tour of Salerno
Begin with a leisurely stroll through Salerno’s lush Communal Park, passing by the Minerva Gardens from the outside. From here, continue towards the heart of the city to visit the Cathedral of Saint Matthew, an 11th-century Romanesque masterpiece. Inside, admire its ornate interiors before descending into the crypt, richly decorated with frescoes and believed to house the remains of the Apostle Matthew.
Historic Center & Pastry Tasting
Afterward, explore the narrow lanes of the medieval quarter along Via dei Mercanti, once the town’s bustling commercial artery. Along the way, stop at a historic pastry shop to enjoy Scazzetta del Cardinale, a beloved local dessert created in 1868. Its vivid strawberry glaze recalls the red galero hat traditionally worn by cardinals.
Your tour concludes with a walk along Salerno’s scenic seaside promenade, offering sweeping views of the Gulf of Salerno, before returning to the pier. Guests may also choose to remain in town and return to the ship independently.
