Excursion Step into tradition: la feria de sevilla - andalusia’s most famous celebration tour at Cadiz
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Step into a world of music, colour, and tradition with this immersive, full-day cultural journey to La Feria de Abril in Seville.
Depart Cádiz aboard an air-conditioned coach for a scenic 90-minute drive through the picturesque Andalusian countryside. Upon arrival at the Recinto Ferial, the fairgrounds where Seville’s legendary Feria comes to life, guests will be welcomed with traditional Feria accessories to wear—flamenco-inspired floral hairpieces and decorative fans for women, and festive hats for men—offering a deeper connection to the spirit of the event.
Guided Walking Tour of the Fairgrounds
Begin your visit with a guided walking tour through the heart of the Recinto Ferial, a spectacularly decorated temporary town filled with more than 1,000 casetas (private tents), each buzzing with music, dancing, and celebration. Your guide will share fascinating insights into the Feria’s origins, dating back to 1846, and its transformation from a livestock market into the joyful, week-long cultural phenomenon it is today.
As you stroll, take in the dazzling sights of horse-drawn carriages, locals in traditional attire, and the lively Paseo de Caballos—a daily parade of impeccably groomed horses and riders. It’s a true feast for the senses.
Authentic Andalusian Lunch in a Traditional Caseta
After exploring, head to one of the public casetas for a traditional Andalusian lunch, usually featuring regional favourites such as Iberian ham, cured cheeses, and Sevillian fried seafood—served alongside rebujito (a light, refreshing sherry cocktail), local wines, and soft drinks. This sit-down experience offers a rare chance to enjoy authentic Feria hospitality from within.
Free Time to Experience the Feria at Your Own Pace
Following lunch, enjoy free time to soak in the Feria atmosphere. Try the famous buñuelos con chocolate (sugar-dusted fried dough with rich hot chocolate), browse local stands for Feria-themed souvenirs, or simply people-watch as locals dance Sevillanas in their vibrant dresses. With music drifting from every corner and the scent of roasted almonds and churros in the air, the experience is nothing short of magical.
After your visit, return to the coach and relax during the comfortable drive back to the port of Cádiz.
Note
Please note: Guests are suggested to have a hearty breakfast since lunch time may not be very early. Departure time from the ship is subject to change depending on the opening times of the fair. This tour involves an extensive amount of walking—approximately 2.5 to 3 kilometres (1.5 to 1.9 miles)—over varied surfaces, including loose soil, cobblestones, and paved areas. Some areas include stairs (up to 15–20 steps). It is not suitable for guests with limited mobility or wheelchair users, and participants should be in good physical condition. The majority of the "casetas / tents" are private and not accessible to public. Restrooms are available in designated public areas throughout the fairgrounds; however, guests may expect line during peak hours, and some facilities may require a small Euros cash donation or fee. The Feria is extremely popular and often very crowded. Please be prepared for large crowds, queues, and potential congestion in walking areas. Guests with mobility or stamina concerns should evaluate their personal comfort before joining. Due to crowd density, we strongly recommend keeping a close eye on your personal belongings. Avoid carrying valuables and use secure, zippered bags. Comfortable walking shoes and sun protection (hats, sunglasses, sunscreen) are strongly recommended. Guests must be at least 18 years old to participate in alcoholic tastings. Tour order and timings may vary depending on traffic, event schedules, and crowd conditions. Flexibility is appreciated to ensure the best experience for all.
DRESS CODE:
We suggest guests to dress elegantly and respectfully in line with Feria traditions; festive, smart-casual attire is appreciated, and traditional flamenco flair is welcomed.
Seville is one of Spain’s most traditional cities, and the Feria is a key cultural event—both a festive social gathering and a place to see and be seen, often with an atmosphere similar to a fashion runway. Elegant attire is highly recommended, though comfort should also be taken into account.
General Guidelines:
There is no strict dress code, especially in tourist-focused casetas, but dressing smartly and respectfully is part of the experience.
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, as the Feria grounds are covered with fine, golden-colored soil.
For Men
- Traditional attire includes dress trousers, a button-up shirt, and loafers.
- Some men opt for a jacket and tie, especially in the evening or when attending more formal casetas.
For Women
- Many women wear the traditional flamenco dress (traje de flamenca), but it is not mandatory.
- An elegant outfit, such as a stylish skirt, trousers, blouse, or top, is perfectly acceptable. Popular colors include red, black, white, but also violet, and yellow, often paired with polka-dot (lunares) patterns and ruffle details (volantes) for a festive touch.
- Wedge shoes are a popular choice among local women during the Feria, as they provide style without the discomfort of high heels.
