Dpart the pier for the scenic, approximately 90 minute drive to Zemaitija, a national park in Lithuania. Zemaitija is located on the panoramic Samogitian Highlands, approximately 28 miles (about 45 kilometre) from the Baltic Sea. Upon arrival, take a guided and narrated walking tour of the Cold War Museum, which is located inside Zemaitija National Park.

The Cold War Museum is a former Soviet Missile base that was secretly built in the 1960s by the hands of Soviet soldiers. This mysterious site once housed four silos containing R-12 surface-to-surface missiles targeted at the biggest European cities, and was eventually closed in 1979. Recently, the base, with its corridors, operation rooms, generator room, and an impressive, approximately 88-foot-deep (about 27-metre-deep) mineshaft, was opened to the public as the Cold War Museum.

Following your captivating tour of the Cold War Museum, proceed for a Lithuanian lunch at Karcema, a traditional local restaurant. After lunch, re-board your coach and commence the picturesque, approximately 75-minute drive back to the pier. En route, your guide points out the essential local sites of this former German town, and Lithuania’s only seaport, during a short orientation drive through Klaipeda’s Old Town.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of walking for approximately 1.24 miles (about two kilometres), at times over uneven surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and 80 steps at the Cold War Museum. This tour is not suitable for guests prone to motion sickness, guests with limited mobility, and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing in layers with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring sun protection, bottled water, a warm sweater or light jacket, umbrella, and Euros or credit cards for purchases from the ship. Guests must be at least 18 years old to be served alcoholic beverages. The drive between the pier and sites visited is approximately 1.5 hours in each direction. The tour sequence may vary. On afternoon calls, the tour will include a late lunch, served after 2pm. Space on this tour is very limited; we suggest you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
