Excursion Winemaking experience with an expert tour at Valparaiso

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Take a private, behind-the-scenes tour of Kingston Vineyards and winery as you sip a glass of wine, hearing the history of the farm and how this American family came to settle here. Learn about wine blending and take home your very own blended bottle as a souvenir.

CJ Kingston was a mining engineer, and migrated to Chile from Michigan in search of gold. When his search for gold turned up none, he ended up as a cattle farmer. As you walk through the vineyards, learn how the family made the conversion to organic farming. See the vines up close and learn about the history of the Casablanca Valley and how Courtney Kingston decided to plant grapes. Initially a venture to grow premium grapes, which they could sell to wineries and winemakers, the Kingstons turned to making their own wine to prove to others what could be done on the land.

Then visit the wine cellar and don a Kingston Family Vineyards apron and take a crash course on mixing and blending wines. Blend your very own bottle that is labelled and corked for you to take home as souvenir. The bottle is accompanied by a fact sheet that explains the different percentages and varietals that were incorporated into the mix as well as the suggested temperature for storing and when the wine can be served. Learn all about the "bottle shock" effect that requires a resting time.

Continue with a tasting before returning to the pier.
