Oranje Tractor Farm

Newly-designed especially for our valued World Cruise guests, your World Cruise Collection tour begins with a short drive to the Oranje Tractor Farm, established in 1996 by Murray Gomm and Pam Lincoln on a 20-acre (about eight-hectare) slice of the beef cattle farm owned by Murray's parents. This certified organic property has an incredibly diversity of produce, including eight acres (about 3.2 hectares) of wine grapes, 30 varieties of fruit trees, a potager garden and a permaculture vegetable garden. Pinot, Riesling, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc are the grape varieties that slowly ripen in the cool climate, resulting in intensely-flavoured wines. In April 2019, Oranje Tractor Wine was a winner in Australia's 'Best Cellar Door Awards' ('Best Additional Experience in the Great Southern' by Gourmet Traveller magazine).

Guided Tour, Tasting Room/Cellar Door, 'Wine Flight', Wines Paired with Local Specialities

Upon arrival, meet the owners of the property, and recreate the experience had by HRH Prince Charles and Lady Camilla on their visit to the property in November 2015. During a guided walking tour of the property, discover the organic vineyard and extensive gardens, including the potager garden and espalier orchard featuring 30 different fruit trees. Following your tour, head to the tasting room/cellar door, which is packed with vintage items and ambient charm. Here, experience a 'Wine Flight', a seated, tutored selection of five wines, including sparkling and fortified wines, paired with local, fresh, organic produce, cheeses, olives, and smoked trout from the farm and region.

Discussion with Murray and Pamela, Tutored Tasting of Local Spirits, 'Ploughman's Lunch'

Next, owners Murray and Pamela entertain World Cruise guests by divulging the secrets to producing intensely-flavoured, award-winning wine, and recounting their organic journey on the property. Learn about their Churchill Scholarship, awarded to investigate organic grape growing, wine production in the U.S. and Europe, the Vin de Champagne Award, and, most recently, vermouth production from their farm-grown botanicals. A tutored tasting of local spirits and lunch is included. Your 'Ploughman's Lunch' features fresh, local produce, artisan cheeses, organic fruit, bread, and accompaniments served with up to two glasses of wine of choice. After lunch, your World Cruise Collection tour concludes with a short drive back to the pier.

Please note: This World Cruise Collection tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 547 yards (about 500 metres), at times over uneven and natural surfaces, with three-five steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and at the farm. Walking at the Oranje Tractor Farm is at the discretion of each guest. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring sun protection and a weatherproof jacket from the ship. Guests must be at least 18 years old to be served alcoholic beverages. The tour sequence may vary.
