Excursion Antonina & morretes by steam locomotive tour at Paranagua

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Embark your journey in Paranaguá on a scenic bus transfer bound for Antonina. Antonina, a captivating town with a population of 20,000, traces its origins back to 1648, stemming from the era of gold exploration in the region. The town's allure lies in its numerous colonial houses that stand as testaments to its rich history. Gaze upon breathtaking views of the bay, enveloped by the lush Atlantic Rainforest.

Morretes and Antonina are seamlessly connected by Brazil's oldest operational steam locomotive, the renowned Locomotive 11, crafted in the USA in 1884. This relic was the pioneer locomotive in the Paranaguá Curitiba railway line. Step into a vintage ambiance, taking a nostalgic trip back in time. Antonina's recently renovated rail station proudly preserves its historical heritage. As the railway traverses a slice of the Atlantic Rainforest, locals often pause their daily routines to wave at the passing train.

Morretes owes its name to its geographical location, nestled at the foothills of the Serra do Mar Mountain range, surrounded by verdant hills and the majestic Atlantic Rainforest. Up on arrival indulge in the local gastronomy at a riverside restaurant with a picturesque view of the Nhundiaquara River. Post-lunch, immerse yourself in free time to leisurely explore Morretes before returning by bus to Paranaguá.
