Scenic Drive through Athens

Depart the pier for the approximate 30-minute drive to Athens. Upon arrival, take a sightseeing drive through the city and see a wide array of classic and modern-day landmarks along the way. Sights of the city include Hadrian's Arch, the statue of Lord Byron, Constitution Square, the former Royal Palace, the National Gardens, the Academy, the University, the National Library, and the Temple of Olympian Zeus.


Parliament, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Old Olympic Stadium

Your drive continues past the Old Olympic Stadium, built to host the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 (traffic and conditions permitting, a brief stop is made here). Drive by the Parliament and Syntagma Square. Here, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is guarded by the 'Evzones', elite soldiers clad in traditional Greek uniforms.

Acropolis

Next, proceed for a photo stop at a viewpoint near the world-renowned Acropolis. See and learn about the history of the principle monuments of the Acropolis, including the Parthenon. Upon completion, the temple featured 92 sculpted metopes, 55 statues and a 521-foot-long (159 metre-long) frieze. Continue with a refreshment stop at the Dionysos restaurant, which is situated at the foot of the Acropolis and features picture worthy views.


Afterward, commence the approximate 30-minute drive back to the pier.
