Excursion Beautiful barbados tour at Bridgetown
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Experience the tropical splendour and legacy of Barbados during this panoramic, half-day sightseeing excursion.
Holetown
Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately one-hour drive through historic Holetown, where the first settlers landed in 1627. Along the way, see many of the splendid hotels, restaurants and homes scattered through the area, also known as the 'Gold Coast'.
St. Nicholas Abbey and Rum Production
Next, drive north to the parish of St. Peter for a visit to the St. Nicholas Abbey. Built in 1660, the abbey is one of only three genuine Jacobean mansions in the Western Hemisphere, and recently underwent an extensive renovation. Marvel at the distinguishing features of this magnificent, well-preserved mansion, including curved Dutch gables, chimney stacks, coral stone finials, a Chinese Chippendale staircase, and fine antiques and china. A rare 1930s film of sugar plantation life can also be viewed. Afterward, proceed across the plantation for an opportunity to observe the traditional rum-making process, and sample the rum produced on this historic property.
Bathsheba and Atlantis Hotel
Leaving the abbey, re-board your coach and drive south along the east coast of the island for panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and coast en route to idyllic Bathsheba. After a brief photo stop here, continue through the countryside and head towards the east coast along Cherry Tree Hill, which offers breath-taking views of the Atlantic Ocean and historic Morgan Lewis Wind Mill, one of the only two intact and restored sugar mills in the Caribbean. A refreshment stop is made in Tent Bay, St. Joseph, at the elegant, 19th-century Atlantis Hotel, which offers commanding panoramic views over the spectacular Atlantic Ocean. Following your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately one-hour drive back to the pier.
