Enjoy a leisurely and educational trip along the lush Ecuadorian coast to a typical hacienda with a cacao and banana plantation. Learn all about the way of life of a montubio (farmer) and see how crops are grown, harvested, and packed for export.


Spend the day getting an up-close look at the life of an Ecuadorian farmer with a tour of a working farm. The day begins with a relaxing journey through the picturesque countryside. A rich agricultural region, the coast is home to some of Ecuador's important crops such pineapples, papayas, mangos, rice, coffee, and cacao. And we cannot forget the bananas, which are the country's largest export.


Upon arrival at the hacienda, be greeted by a montubio (farmer) who takes you on a tour of the working farm. Learn how the montubio uses Ecuador's rich soil, and the yearly hot, rainy season to his advantage to grow abundant crops. Later, sit down to a delicious homemade lunch complete with local produce.


This is a family Hacienda which history started in the 1930's, the 4th generation established Hacienda San José, a cacao plantation that has been recognized and awarded for having some of the highest quality cacao beans in Ecuador. These beans are known for their fine aroma and distinguished nutty flavors. Made by Ecuadorian hands, harvested, fermented and dried with their own techniques, inherited & improved during the last century.


At the end of the day, climb back aboard your motor coach for the scenic ride back to Guayaquil.

Please note: Guests are recommended to wear flat shoes, lightweight clothing, hats, sunscreen, and to bring sunglasses, insect repellent and umbrellas. There are about three hours of walking around the hacienda plantation and facilities. This excursion is not suitable for guests with limited mobility because of uneven terrain. Guests may choose to return to the coach when ready or explore independently.
