Excursion Dakar city tour tour at Dakar

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Get a taste of Dakar's cityscapes, architecture, culture, history, and of course also local village life on this splendidly varied tour. Begin with a scenic city tour of Dakar proceeding to the Museum of the Black Civilizations, considered as the second most important Museum in Africa after a museum in Cairo. Be welcomed by museum curator and enjoy a Visit of the Museum.

Leave for the house of the artist Ousmane Sow. To create his sculptures, Ousmane Sow would spend long hours locked up in his studio house in Dakar, where he lived from 1999 until the end of his life. A work of art, the house still has a floor covered with tiles made by the artist himself. Resolutely contemporary, the building now houses around approximately thirty original works.

Continue to the Village des Arts, composed of fifty-two artist studios (ateliers). All disciplines of the visual arts are represented: painting, sculpture, ceramics, photography, video, installation, etc. The Village is the place to meet the best artists and young talents of the vibrant Senegalese artistic scene.

Last stop at Kermel market, to one of the liveliest markets in Dakar. A picturesque market rich with colors, scents, and Senegalese handicrafts. On the way back to the port, stop at Massalikoul Djinane Mosque and enjoy other scenic sights.

Note

Please note: A minimal amount of easy walking over short distances, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and at the sites visited. Lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection is recommended.
