Excursion Dalian city walk with ancient kite flying tour at Dalian

Experience the unique sights and traditions of Dalian City during this scenic, half-day excursion via coach and on-foot.

Zhongshan, Victory and Friendship Squares

Depart the pier for the short drive to Zhongshan Square, the first and oldest of its kind in Dalian. Built in 1899 by the Russians, this city centre becomes a lively scene of music and entertainment in the evenings. From Zhongshan, walk toward the renowned People's Square. En route, pass Victory Square, home to world-class shopping, and Friendship Square, named to honour the alliance of China and the Soviet Union; its giant crystal sphere is quite remarkable. Take special note of Qingniwaqiao, home to a railway station and more spectacular shopping.

People's Square

Continue along Zhongshan Road to People's Square. Formerly known as Stalin Square, it was built to commemorate the liberation of north-eastern China in 1945 from the Red Army of the Soviet Union. Rolling Meadows and gentle doves adorn this lovely city square, where you can take a leisurely stroll before proceeding for a refreshment stop at a local bar.

Labour Park and Kite-Flying

Next, re-board your coach and drive to nearby Labour Park. The highlight of your day is an opportunity to fly a kite here (weather-permitting). Kite-flying dates back over 2,000 years in China, where indigenous bamboo and silk still provides the ideal materials for this delicate airborne apparatus. Upon arrival, try your hand at practising this ancient skill, still thrilling young-and-old the world over with the fancy of flight. Following your visit, you may re-board your coach for the short drive back to the pier, or opt to be dropped off at the Friendship Shopping Centre for independent shopping at your leisure, then transfer back to the pier via the ship's shuttle bus.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of walking for approximately 1.4 miles (2.3 kilometres), with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and at the sites visited. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing, flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended.
