Excursion Expedition activities with silversea expedition team tour at Isla Robinson Crusoe
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Robinson Crusoe Island, part of the Jian Fernandez Archipelago, is situated approximately 670 km (416 miles) off the central Chilean coast in the South Pacific Ocean. Renowned for its rugged landscape, diverse ecosystems, and its historical ties to the real-life castaway Alexander Selkirk—whose experiences inspired Daniel Defoe’s novel Robinson Crusoe—the island is designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The quaint settlement of San Juan Bautista is a short 500m walk from the pier.
Upon arrival at the concrete pier, which features a few steps for disembarkation, you can either explore the settlement independently or accompany your Expedition Staff on various guided walks and hikes across the island. Detailed information and logistical arrangements will be provided by the Expedition Leader on board.
Note
Please note: Be aware that the island features steep and rugged terrain with limited infrastructure. Taxis and public transportation are not available on the island. Guests who choose to join the Expedition Team for guided hikes will encounter various types of terrain, including wet, muddy, rocky, and sandy areas, so sturdy hiking boots or trekking shoes are highly recommended. Hikes will vary in difficulty, and guests should carefully assess their own abilities before selecting a hike. Those with even slight balance issues are encouraged to use walking poles for support on slippery and uneven ground. Guests participating in the walk to the Patriot cave should prepare for a climb of 60-80 steps up a steep incline, as the caves are situated 100 feet above sea level. The weather may be hot and humid, so we suggest bringing a filled Silversea drinking bottle to stay hydrated, along with a hat, sunglasses, sunblock, insect repellent, and your Silversea backpack to carry essential items.
