Excursion Faial highlights: caldeira, capelinhos & coastal vistas tour at Horta

Departing the quay, we head towards the Espalamaca Belvedere, which provides expansive views of the port and the historic town of Horta, along with clear sights of Pico, São Jorge, Graciosa, and Terceira in the Central Group of the Azores.

As we continue inland, we climb to the center of Faial to explore the remarkable Caldeira, a large volcanic crater over a mile in diameter, surrounded by lush greenery. Traveling west through traditional villages, we take in sweeping views of Capelinhos Volcano, which was formed during the significant eruption of 1957 and still shows the stark remnants of its volcanic history.

The return trip follows the picturesque south coast of Faial, winding past roads lined with hydrangeas, windmills, and rural scenery, before we make our way back to Horta via Capelo and Castelo Branco.

Please note: A minimal amount of walking, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. Lightweight, comfortable clothing, flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. The tour sequence may vary.
