Palamos,Figueres, Dali Museum, Bread Bun Sculptures, Golden Mannequins, Giant Eggs
Depart the pier for the approximately 75-minute drive to Figueres, located in the Girona Province. Upon arrival, proceed for a visit to the Dali Museum. The second-most visited museum in Spain after the Prado, the Dali Museum is thoroughly entertaining, and no one is really prepared for it because it is so uniquely different. Dali designed it in the last years of his life, right down to the last detail. The outside walls have small sculptures of bread buns; on top of the museum are golden mannequins and giant eggs.
Patio, Cadillac, Sculpture, Wall of Gold Mannequins, Shape-Shifting Painting, Free Time
Upon entering the museum, take a guided tour of the first floor. Your first stop is the patio, where Dali's Cadillac can be found. On top of the hood of the car is a sculpture of a woman. There is also a wall that contains many more gold mannequins. A large painting by Dali looks like it has several figures of Venus de Milo, but, when you squint your eyes, the painting metamorphoses into the face of Abraham Lincoln. Following your tour, some free time is made available for independent exploration.
City Centre of Figueres, Walking Tour
Leaving the Dali Museum, take a short, guided walking tour through the city centre of Figueres. Along the way, a stop is made at the local cafe for a coffee. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 75-minute drive back to the pier.
