Excursion Flavors of a fertile valley in the desert tour at Arica
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Taste the flavors of the region's valleys on this delightful excursion. First visit the famous fresh market of agricultural products grown in the four valleys: Azapa, Lluta, Chaca, and Acha. While enjoying a stroll through colors and aromas, help a local chef select foods for the preparation, later on, of appetizers with a dash of the local cuisine.
Continue to San Miguel de Azapa Archaeological Museum and learn the surprising history and legacy of the Chinchorro Culture. Visit the two halls that share the history of the place, from the appearance of the first inhabitants to the settlement of the valleys and highlands next to the mountains. See how the museum works to preserve and introduce respectfully the mummies of Chinchorro culture, which are seeking status as a world heritage-designated site.
After the visit to the museum, head to a farm specializing in olive production. See the crops and learn about the production process of the famous Azapa olives. Your local chef is preparing delicious appetizers with the products chosen earlier at the market. Transfer back to the pier (30-minute drive).
