Glasgow Sightseeing

Depart the pier for the approximately 45-minute drive along the southern shore of the River Clyde en route to Glasgow, Scotland's largest city. Glasgow's skyline is a kaleidoscope of architectural gems that encompasses the magnificent 12th-century Cathedral, stunning Victorian cityscape, art galleries and museums, and Art Nouveau-style. Upon arrival, begin your orientation drive through the centre of the city. Along the way, see the statues at the 18th-century George Square, Glasgow's oldest public square, and pass by Cathedral Square, home of the 12th-century Glasgow Cathedral, one of the most historic Medieval sites in Glasgow.

Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum

Next, continue on to Kelvingrove for a visit to the Victorian-style Art Gallery & Museum. This large, imposing red sandstone structure is one of Glasgow's landmark buildings, and features a magnificent interior that has been recently restored to its original splendour. Inside, see ever-changing contemporary exhibitions that include dinosaurs, suits of armour, frightening weaponry and treasures from throughout the world. The museum also houses a superb collection of paintings by renowned artists, including Botticelli, Rembrandt, Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, and Dali, whose world-renowned work, Christ of St. John of the Cross, makes a welcome return to the gallery.

A section of the museum features an exhibit that is dedicated to famous Scottish luminaries, from Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots to modern-day political figures, and includes costumes, historic artefacts, arms and some wonderful Scottish landscapes. Alternatively, you may opt to explore the museum's other enthralling galleries and exhibits independently. The museum's location also offers splendid views of the 15th-century, Gothic-style buildings of Glasgow University, which is perched on a hillside above the River Kelvin. Following your museum visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 45-minute drive back to the pier.
