Excursion Hardanger mountain palteau & halne lodge tour at Eidfjord

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Explore the immense natural beauty and power of Norway during this panoramic, half-day sightseeing excursion.

Eidfjord, Norwegian Nature Centre

Depart the pier for the short drive from Eidfjord to the Norwegian Nature Centre. The village of Eidfjord has only about 1,000 inhabitants; however, due to its production of hydroelectric power, it is one of Norway’s wealthiest communities. Upon arrival, take a guided tour of the Nature Centre, which offers exhibits of the wildlife in the area, and an audio-visual presentation about the waterfalls and dams.

Måbødalen Valley, Hardanger Mountain Plateau, Fossli, Vøringsfossen Waterfall

Next, re-board your coach and take a panoramic drive through the spectacular and steep Måbødalen Valley. The road leads to the huge Hardanger Mountain Plateau; the largest mountain plateau in Northern Europe, it is also part of Norway’s largest National Park. Continue to Fossli to view the stunning Vøringsfossen Waterfall, and take a short walk on an uneven path to the viewpoint. The majestic falls cascade almost 600 feet (about 183 metres) into the wild Måbødalen Valley below. After a photo stop here, re-board your coach and head to the Sysen Dam.

Sysen Dam, Sima Power Station

The Sysen Dam is the main reservoir for the Sima Power Station, and one of Norway's largest embankment dams. The dam’s watertight core is lined with filter zones of sand and gravel, weighted down and supported by large quantities of rock. The dam itself is more than 0.5 miles (about 0.8 kilometres) in length, approximately 265 feet (about 81 metres) tall and approximately 813 feet (about 248 metres) in width at the bottom. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the short drive back to the pier.
