Cruise line: Silversea

After tendering ashore, a short and pleasant walk brings you to the parking area, where your journey begins with a scenic 40-minute drive to the charming village of Jelsa. Nestled along a tranquil harbour and graced with stone-paved streets and a warm, inviting atmosphere, Jelsa offers a peaceful glimpse into traditional island life. A brief orientation reveals its historic landmarks, hidden corners, and deep-rooted traditions in winemaking and seafaring. Your arrival at the renowned Dubokovic Winery is personally welcomed by its owner, Ivo Dubokovic.

Ivo Dubokovic

Born in the family home above the cellar his grandfather built in 1939, Ivo Dubokovic has elevated a legacy passed down through generations. Building upon the foundations laid by his father and grandfather, he has become one of Croatia’s most distinctive and innovative winemakers. Although celebrated for pioneering white macerated (orange) wines on Hvar, Ivo is best known for his signature red labels, Medvid and Medvjedica. His first label, Medvid, takes its name from a species of Mediterranean monk seal once found in an underwater cave near the vineyards—today considered one of the cult expressions of the Plavac Mali grape.

Wine Tasting with Local Specialities

Ivo guides you into his evocative 80-year-old cellar, carved beneath a traditional Hvar-stone family residence—an atmosphere that is itself an essential part of the experience. Here, he leads an intimate tasting featuring four to six of his award-winning wines, each introduced with passion and insight. The tasting is accompanied by artisanal olive oil and freshly baked bread, highlighting the authentic flavours of the island.
