Excursion Hiking the berserk lava fields: a journey through iceland's wild terrain tour at Stykkisholmur

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

The rugged Berserk Lava Field dominates the western region of Helgafell County, extending from the mountain slopes to the coastline. It is characterized by four notable scoria craters of varying sizes, which align in an east-west direction from the Ogress Pass (Kerlingarskard). The lava flows have formed two lakes on their southern edge, enhancing the area's tranquility and natural beauty. However, these features also posed significant challenges for early settlers during the Age of Settlement. Enjoy a hike along one of the trails that wind through the solidified lava field.

Note

Please note: A moderate amount of hiking for approximately 90minutes and distance of 2.3 km (1.4 miles). At times over uneven, unpaved terrain with loose gravel and rocks. To ensure safety, there is no active lava flow; the walk will take place across a solidified lava field. Dress in layers with sturdy, closed-toe, waterproof walking shoes/boots, and bring sun protection and a weatherproof jacket, hat, scarf and gloves.
