Excursion Hiking up table mountain tour at Cape Town

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

No visit to Cape Town is complete without a trip up Table Mountain, the city's most celebrated landmark and what better way to experience it with a hike up the mountain, fantastic bird's eye views from the top, followed by a cable car trip down.

Depart from the quayside and travel up Kloof Nek, the saddle between Table Mountain and Lions Head, to the Platteklip Gorge Route.

The Platteklip Gorge route is the most direct and popular route up Table Mountain, starting off with a series of rocky steps next to a watercourse to the contour path. From here the gorge is rocky with steep steps (more than 800) that are high and uneven in places and no water or shady trees along the way.

The hike is physically demanding and rated as moderate to tough, depending on your fitness and the weather. Also remember mountain walking fitness is different to walking or running on flat terrain.

From the summit, the natural protected area stretching from Signal Hill to Cape Point has been managed under the custodianship of the National Parks Board. This area has one of the highest concentrations of endemic plant and animal species in any area of its size, containing a staggering 2 285 plant species - more than the entire U.K.

While enjoying the breathtaking views from the summit of Table Mountain, enjoy a small snack.

When the top of this spectacular land mark has been explored, the Cable Car awaits to descend you down Table Mountain.

You will be returned to the Cape Town Cruise Terminal
