Discover the South-West of Mauritius with a mixture of landscapes between impressive mountain peaks and ranges, sugar cane fields and the beautiful coastline. This region holds a special place in the history of the island as it used to shelter escaped slaves, called maroons, throughout the 18th to 19th centuries. The most local and authentic villages are located in this area as they are located far from the well developed urban areas.
The first stop is at Chamarel Coffee plantation, the only coffee grown and processed in Mauritius. Established in 1967, the plantation extends over 16 hectares at an altitude of 280 metres above sea level and is made up primarily of Coffea Arabica, one of the most popular coffee varieties in the world. Step into the world of Café de Chamarel with a guided tour through lush volcanic plantations, traditional harvesting, and artisan roasting. You will also discover how they also cultivate cocoa and vanilla in this estate.
Re-joining your coach, a short drive will lead you to the Chamarel’s 7 Coloured Earth Geopark, a rare a geological formation and one of the most famous attraction of the island. Marvel at the sand dunes comprising sand of seven distinct colours (approximately red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow) and learn about their formation while enjoying the best views.
Nestled in the fertile valley of the Southwest region of Mauritius, lies the renowned Rhumerie de Chamarel, your next stop. Set in a charming chalet, exhibiting tropical and traditional vibes, The Rhumerie de Chamarel Distillery will have you learn all you need to know about Rum making on paradise island. You will get to enjoy a boozily delicious rum tasting session, discovering the different flavours of rum the distillery manufactures.
A delicious 3-course lunch at the beautiful L’Alchimiste restaurant is also on the menu. L’Alchimiste specializes in a unique cuisine, prepared with local products sourced from the estate itself.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking of approximately 0.8 km or 0.5 miles with about 20 steps to negotiate at the sites and a few to get on/off the coach. This tour is suitable for guests with limited mobility but not for those who utilise a wheelchair. Flat, closed-toe walking shoes are recommended for this tour. Please bring sun protection (high-SPF sunscreen, hat, sunglasses), bottled water to stay hydrated, and local currency or credit cards for any purchases. A light rain jacket or compact umbrella may be useful for occasional tropical showers.
