Depending on your ship's docking location, either begin your tour downtown by walking directly to the local ferry station, or taking a shuttle bus to the downtown area and walking to the ferry station. Upon arrival, embark your ferry for the short ride to Ile aux Marins, a charming island in the Atlantic Ocean facing Saint-Pierre. Settled in 1604, Ile aux Marins was a commune until 1945, when it was annexed by the commune of Saint-Pierre. Upon arrival, disembark the ferry and take a guided walking tour of the island.
Guided Walking Tour, Museum, Church, Cross, Grotto, Cemetery
Along the way, discover why Ile aux Marins is a unique testimony to the fishermen's past. In the 1960s, the last permanent residents left the island. However, heritage groups, with help from the French and local governments, have given life back to the island, which is now an essential attraction for visitors and tourists alike. During your walking tour, take in splendid views and photo opportunities whilst passing by local sites such as the museum, Church, cross, grotto, and cemetery. Afterward, embark the ferry for the short ride back to St. Pierre. Upon arrival, disembark the ship for the short walk back to the pier.
