Embark from the pier to explore the harbor and its five ports with your guide. Hear about the exponential shipping growth over the past two decades. Learn about the harbor's strategic military location, as a former French Foreign Legion outpost that became Camp Lemonnier, and now is the only U.S. military installation in Africa, driving campaigns in Somalia and Yemen.
Board your coach for the short drive to see the Palais du Peuple (The People's Palace), a monument to and symbol of the struggle for freedom of the people. Experience this patriotic monument that pays tribute to the ideas of Djiboutian liberators and contains the symbolic shield of the nomad. Drive down the Rue de Venise to the picturesque Corniche for a photo stop.
Enjoy a tour of nearby suburbs and villages. Drive to the suburb of Doraleh. Stop for photos and explore local culture living in the suburbs. Next, visit Balbala, a southern suburb of Djibouti City, located west of the River Ambouli. Experience the local culture here in the suburb villages that formed in 1966 when access to the city was restricted after riots. See the "flashing" of the nearby lighthouse that gives this suburb its name. Discover Damerjob, a small village located in the Arta Region eastern Djibouti, populated by farmers and gardeners, located in the Arta Region. north of the border with Somaliland.
Continue to Douda to spend time on the lovely Douda Beach, and take a short drive to the local African market. Stroll around the stalls and shop for souvenirs.
Return to your coach for the drive back to Dijbouti City, passing through the European Quarter. See the Place du 27 Juin 1977 (Place Ménélik), a vast square with a strange mix of Arab and European influences seen in its whitewashed houses and Moorish arcades. Enjoy the bustle of the streets lined with cafés, bars, restaurants, and shops. View the principal administrative buildings along Plateau du Serpent area and the Boulevard de la République.
From here, take the short drive back to the pier.
