FULL DESCRIPTION

DAY 1 - Thursday, 26 March – East Bali Villages

Your cultural discoveries begin swiftly with an early drive across scenic East Bali to visit the ancient Kerta Gosa royal court of justice in Klungkung, its elaborately painted ceilings recounting vivid stories of Balinese law and morality. Next on the morning agenda is a walk through Tenganan, one of Bali’s oldest and most traditional Bali Aga villages. Stroll through peaceful lanes lined with unique thatch-peaked architecture and witness the art of gringsing – a sacred and intricate weaving tradition preserved through generations and practiced in only three cultures in the world.

Recharge with an authentically flavorful Indonesian set menu lunch at a local restaurant before heading onward and eastward to reach the elegant Taman Ujung Water Palace, a former royal retreat surrounded by tranquil ponds, grand archways, and panoramic sea and mountain views. Your hourlong visit here provides a fascinating glimpse into Bali’s regal past.

Relax and reflect on this inaugural day of Balinese culture and history during the two-hour journey back westward into the highlands of Ubud and your first accommodations – a Heavenly Pool Villa at Maya Ubud Resort & Spa. Following check-in and a bit of free time to get oriented, a vibrant dinner experience awaits at Mayasari Restaurant on-property.

DAY 2 - Friday, 27 March – Country Cycling & Royal Dinner

Prepare for the upcoming day with an early breakfast amidst lush tropical growth and tranquility at Maya Ubud Resort. A scenic 75-minute drive north follows, leading to Grand Puncak Sari Restaurant – where you’ll sign in for this morning’s cycling experience and enjoy a coffee break with spectacular terrace views of Mount Batur and the Kintamani landscape. Take a moment to breathe in the crisp mountain air, knowing this is just the beginning – your two-wheeled Balinese survey will soon be underway after outfitting at nearby Bayung Gede village. Then, for the next two hours, pedal along quiet back roads and through hidden villages, immersed in the off-the-beaten-path heart of Bali. Your guide will share insights into local life, ancient traditions, and the magnificent nature of the region all along the way. Afterwards, unwind and recharge over lunch at the eco-chic Koko Bamboo Restaurant. Soak up the engaging atmosphere and indulge in a delicious 3-course Indonesian set menu crafted from fresh local ingredients.

After the 90-minute return drive to Maya Ubud Resort, enjoy a comfortable interval to get refreshed and prepared for the evening’s memorable event – a private dinner and dance experience at Puri Taman Sari, a beautifully preserved traditional royal palace nestled in the quiet countryside about 90 minutes from the hotel.

A warm Balinese welcome awaits, complete with gamelan music, flower offerings, and beautifully adorned dancers leading the way through the palace grounds. Allow this regal ambiance to transport you back to a time of kings and kingdoms as you stroll the compound and watch real-time Balinese daily life and rituals underway, such as snack cooking demonstrations, preparations of sacred offerings, and craftmaking skills that have been kept vibrant for generations.

As the sun sets, take your open-air seat for a graceful Balinese dance performance steeped in richly symbolic storytelling and set against the romantic glow of the palace courtyard. Then, indulge in a flavorful Indonesian buffet dinner featuring a variety of authentic local specialties – from aromatic satays and tender fried duck to delightful tropical dessert options. At the end of this immersive cultural evening, journey back to your hotel to unwind and rest overnight for tomorrow’s adventures.

DAY 3 - Saturday, 28 March – Sacred Monkeys & Rice Terraces

Today you reposition from the Ubud highlands to coastal Sanur with a full agenda of exploring along the way. After an early breakfast and check-out at Maya Ubud Resort, settle into the motorcoach to depart for your first stop, Yeh Pulu Relief in Gianyar. Rediscovered in the 1920s, the long-hidden stone carvings here are a true archaeological treasure, depicting scenes of the daily life of the local ancients. Nestled amidst lush greenery, they offer a compelling glimpse into Bali’s spiritual and artistic heritage. Some 30 minutes away is an iconic sight of a very different nature: the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, a mystical forest brimming with ancient temples and moss-covered statues – and home to over 1,000 of the long-tailed macaque monkeys considered sacred by the Balinese. Lunch at a charming nearby restaurant provides a welcome break and a further immersion into authentic Indonesian flavors.

For the afternoon, we venture north to the breathtaking UNESCO-listed Jatiluwih Rice Terraces, known for their sweeping emerald landscape and traditional Subak irrigation system. Take an easy guided trek through the terraces to experience the remarkably fresh air and stunning views. Afterwards, enjoy a sampling of local Balinese snacks paired with black coffee or tea. Then, as the sun begins to dip, travel south and to the coast, where the Hyatt Regency Sanur awaits your check-in. The evening is yours to enjoy at leisure; perhaps stroll the beach, relax by the pool, or simply settle into your sumptuous new surroundings before concluding the day with dinner at the hotel’s signature restaurant
