Ascend Mount Lycabettus by Underground Funicular

Next, head to the foothills of Mount Lycabettus, the highest point in central Athens. The journey continues aboard the Lycabettus Funicular Railway, an exhilarating underground ride of approximately 680 feet that transports guests to the mountain’s summit. The funicular itself provides a spine-tingling experience, culminating in spectacular, 360-degree views of the city and beyond.

Enjoy the Spectacular Views and Cultural Highlights

From the peak, marvel at the panoramic vistas that encompass the Acropolis, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Panathenaic Stadium. The landscape reveals Athens’ proximity to the sea, with stunning views across the Aegean. On the summit, visit the 19th-century Chapel of Saint George, a charming Cycladic-style chapel built on the grounds of an ancient temple dedicated to Zeus. A nearby café offers the perfect setting to relax with tea or coffee, overlooking Athens’ most iconic sights. Afterward, reboard the coach for the scenic transfer back to the pier.

Note

Please note: The maximum group size will be 15 passengers per guide. There are approximately 120 steps and uneven ground to negotiate. The funicular line runs through a tunnel, therefore it is not recommended for passengers who suffer from claustrophobia. Passengers wishing to climb to the top of the hill where St. George chapel is located will have to negotiate approximately 60 steps. There may be a short walk from the drop-off point to the entrance of the funicular due to the narrow streets. The width of the road and current road works do not allow the use of a large bus nor reach the area near the top at Mount Lycabettus funicular. For this reason, the coaster is forced to park at a distance from the entrance to the funicular and guests walk about 200 yards to reach the entrance and two extra flights of stairs.
