Excursion Norwegian cider tasting and old town stroll tour at Stavanger

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Savour a treat for your eyes as well as your palate, as we walk the lanes of historic Gamle Stavanger and sample the delicious fruit of its fruits: Norwegian cider. Consider this a genteel toast to Norway’s outstanding carpenters and productive apple trees.

Cider Tasting

Setting out on foot from the pier, arrive at a venue devoted to the savouring of locally-produced cider, aka “Norwegian champagne”.  The uniquely cool microclimate along these narrow fjords creates ideal growing conditions for thousands of apple trees to produce their light and fragrant bounty each year. And ever since the Viking era, the Norwegians have been devoted to crafting ciders that showcase the apples’ flavor-defining fruit acids – and pack a delicious punch to boot. During an hour-long visit, you’ll sample three varieties of cider accompanied by assorted cured meats and cheeses. Skål!

Gamle Stavanger Walk

Wander back in time along meandering cobbled lanes where a world-class collection of preserved 18th-century wooden houses thumb their noses at modern life. Our passionate local guide will lead you through Stavanger's charming Old Town and other sights in the city center. Gain a deeper understanding of Norwegian culture as you learn about their way of life and the traditions that shape Norway's unique fjordland heritage. At the tour’s conclusion, the ship is just a 10-minute stroll away.
