Excursion Plantation house – governor's residence tour at St Helena

Get an exquisite opportunity to see the interior of the residence of the Governor of St. Helena. Built in 1792, the 35-room house served as a summer residence for the Governor of St. Helena. Receive a tour from the Governor's Resident Manager, who brings to life the history of the building highlighting current and previous occupants and their influences on its designs and uses over the years.


Guest will be given tours of the following areas within the house:

· Entrance Hall

· Main Dining Room

· Games Room

· Drawing Room

· Governor's Office

· Library

· General's bedroom

· Barons Room


As many will know, Plantation Grounds is also residence to the island's oldest inhabitant, Jonathan the tortoise, who came to the island in 1882 and is said to be around 186 years old. Other tortoises, namely Emma, David and Fredrika, are also found in the same grounds.


Please note: This tour requires only a modest amount of walking, though sometimes on uneven surfaces, and up and down some stairs, making this tour less suitable for those with limited mobility. Transportation time is approx 20. minutes and time at the Governor residence is approx 45 minutes. A rain jacket and comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
