Excursion Rolling through saga country: vik’s stave churches by e-bike tour at Vik

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

This half day tour glides out from the pier on e-bikes to discover Vik’s stave and stone churches, Viking-age burial mounds, shoreline hamlets, and a tasty pause.

Vik’s Scenic Village, Moahaugene

Meet your guide at the pier, gear up, and receive a quick e-bike orientation before setting off through the scenic village of Vik. The assisted pedaling makes easy work of the route as you follow quiet roads toward Hopperstad Stave Church, one of Norway’s oldest stave churches and a striking emblem of medieval wooden architecture. Continue by bike to the Moahaugene burial mounds—traces of the area’s Viking-age past—then roll on to the robust Hove Stone Church, whose Romanesque simplicity contrasts beautifully with the surrounding fjord landscape.

Blix Hotel, Cheese&Juice Tasting, Vikøyri

Mid-route, park the bikes for a flavorful interlude at the Blix Hotel, where you sample traditional gamalost—a heritage cheese with roots in Viking times—paired with refreshing, locally produced raspberry juice. Back in the saddle, follow the shoreline into the charming Vikøyri (beach-dweller) settlement, lined with colorful boathouses and fishermen’s cottages, and enjoy a final photo stop before returning to the pier to hand back your gear.
