Excursion Scenic gougane barra tour at Bantry

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Embrace the spectacular panoramic beauty of Gougane Barra National Park during this scenic, half-day sightseeing excursion.

Glengarriff, Ballylickey, Kealkill and Gougane Barra National Park

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 45-minute drive to the panoramic Gougane Barra National Park via Ballylickey and Kealkill. Upon arrival, take a panoramic drive through Gougane Barra, which features magnificent mountain scenery and brooding cliffs rising above the dark waters of the lake. In the lake is a tiny island, connected to the mainland by an artificial causeway; this was the hermitage of St. Finbarr, patron saint of Cork. Although nothing remains today of the hermitage, there is an 18-century church where an annual pilgrimage is made each September.

Local Hotel Visit, Irish Coffee and St. Finbarr's Oratory

Following your drive through Gougane Barra National Park, a stop is made at the local hotel for you to relax and enjoy an Irish coffee. Afterward, some free time is made available to visit and photograph the tiny island church of St. Finbarr's Oratory. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 45-minute drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking, at times over uneven surfaces, hills and inclines, with three steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach.
