Excursion Skiathos walking tour tour at Skiathos

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Explore the history and highlights of the city of Skiathos during this half-day guided walking tour through the city centre.

Departing from the pier, guests will be guided on-foot into the nearby city centre to begin their orientation to this charming island town. Beginning in the Old Town, the tour will proceed to the cultural, architectural and historical highlights of the city.

Metropolis of Skiathos Hierarchs

Continuing through the narrow, cobbled streets, guests will arrive at the Metropolis of Skiathos Hierarchs.  Here, ancient Byzantine icons can be admired as guests are informed of the unique features that make them renowned and rare versions of these revered images.

House of Alexander Papadiamantis

Next, enjoy a stop to the museum housed inside the former home of the famous Greek writer Alexander Papadiamantis. Built in the 1860's, his house exemplifies average living conditions on the island during his life, which only adds to his descriptions of the hardships he and his fellow islanders faced. This cosy home is now a small museum that houses a collection of writing samples, books and vintage photos.

At the conclusion of the walking tour, guests may opt to follow the guide back to the ship or stay in town and return to the ship independently.
