Excursion Southern gambia 4x4 monster truck safari tour at Banjul

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Explore a different side of southern Gambia off the beaten track during this full-day, off-road Monster Truck excursion.

Banjul, Sukuta Village, Local Market, Palm Wine Centre, Wine-Tapping Demonstration and Tasting

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 75-minute drive to Sukuta Village. Upon arrival, experience a real taste of Africa during a photo stop at a local fish and vegetable market. From here, re-board your coach and continue on to Yuna Village for a visit to the Palm Wine Centre. Upon arrival, see Uncle John's local palm wine tappers conduct a demonstration of how locals tap the wine palm to make this unique and strong Gambian beverage known as 'zum zum' (fire water). If left out in the sun for around 24 hours, the alcohol percentage of palm wine can rise as high as 38%. Following the wine-tapping demonstration, you are invited to join in a tasting of 'jungle juice' made from palm wine.

Sanyang, Local School Visit, Paradise Beach, Lunch, Free Time, Beach, Swimming, Sunbathing

Next, re-board your coach and head to a local school in Sanyang for a unique opportunity to learn about the grass roots of education in Gambia. Following your visit, transfer to the Paradise Beach and proceed for lunch served under Gambian tour huts. After lunch, some free time is made available to stroll the beach, take a refreshing dip in the ocean, or simply relax and soak up the sunshine.

Tanje Museum, Local Artist Workshops, Tanje Fishing Village, Shopping

Leaving the beach, re-board your coach and drive to the Tanje Museum, which showcases the traditional culture of Gambia. During your guided visit, discover more about the country, its different tribes and the wildlife found in the area. Interact with local artists, and visit their workshops within the museum to observe their artistic processes. A brief, final stop is made at the Tanje Fishing Village, which boasts impressive scenery. Observe the locals as they gather their day's catch, or browse for goods at the small marketplace. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 70-minute drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of off-road driving and a moderate amount of walking, at times over bumpy and uneven natural surfaces and inclines, with several steps to negotiate to get on/off the 4X4 vehicle.
